DON QUIXOTE
Director - Ādolfs Šapiro
Director Adolf Shapiro, the creator of the legendary Youth Theatre—once so vital to Latvia—returns to Lāčplēša iela 25.
Commenting on his vision for Miguel de Cervantes' "Don Quixote", Shapiro says: “Poetic imagination or everyday prose? Magnificent madness or earthbound reason? Repulsion and mutual influence. The story of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza (Cervantes himself called it a story, not a novel) illuminates the theatre of life and the life of theatre. In this light, we can more clearly see the modern world’s oscillation between the noble intentions of loners (which are always naive) and the bitter experience of reconciling with reality. The performance of Don Quixote can serve as a peculiar test for both actors and the director, revealing how much 'Quixotism' and how much 'Panzaism' dwells within each of us. And the audience, too, will be able to test themselves.”
Kaspars Znotiņš stars as Don Quixote, with Gundars Āboliņš as Sancho Panza.
