TUMSAS VARA / THE POWER OF DARKNESS

Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy
THE POWER OF DARKNESS

„But one claw snagged, the bird is bagged” is the original name of the play “The Power of Darkness” by Lev Tolstoy written in 1886. It is based on true events — a criminal court case in the Tula province about the crimes committed by a peasant. When writing the play, Tolstoy visited the sentenced in prison. The author was not so much interested in the scary process of the crime, but rather in how all the involved could go beyond the extreme limits of humanity, and whether a way back was possible.
